Bali with my busy baby.
It's been a while since I let words pour from my finger tips. Moving across the country, moving back, falling pregnant, giving birth, navigating this new life and pursuing my love for photography - my brain space has been minimal to say the least. It feels like I am finally coming out of hiding. 7 months pp I finally feel the ideas in my mind starting to show themselves and my heart begin to light up. motherhood is beautiful and challenging and all consuming - I knew I needed some space away from the business of everyday life to reconnect with me.
So, I booked a flight to Bali with my partner and 6 month old baby with a knowing that this was exactly what we all needed in this phase of our lives. And it was.
Bali has an extremely special place in my heart and that has enriched even further after the trip we shared together.
My daughter Kirri was 6 months when we went to Bali together. An absolute epic age to travel with a babe. She is sitting up like a champ but can't crawl. Only eating/trying a bit of food and is generally just frothing to be alive!
One of my girlfriends asked if I was nervous about traveling with a baby and honestly, I wasn't and I didn't feel nervous at all when we were there. The Balinese absolutely adore babies, especially white babies like mine lol.
It obviously depends on the temperament of your babe but Kirri is generally pretty chill and I've taken her everywhere with me since she was born. photoshoots, up mountains, huge hikes etc. I've tried my hardest to keep doing the things I love to do and just bring her along - it's working so far.
I was definitely a bit more prepared then traveling solo obviously, I made my own little first aid kit with a bunch of things I could potentially need for her and us, antibiotics (thanks mastitis), Panadol, healing balms, organic toxic free bug spray, hand santizer, supplements, colloidal silver etc. We didn't end up using much of this but the knowing it was there really helped me feel prepared.
Kirri girl was epic on the plane, our biggest issue was her being a bit vocal while people were trying to sleep, she loves a chat and is pretty full of energy when she's awake. Bring toys, lots of toys.
It's easy to get around with a babe in Bali too, just grab a Taxi or GoJek and your little one just sits on your lap!
As I mentioned, the Balinese absolutely adore babies and we found that most nights we had dinner on our own Bali the Balinese women swooned over Kirri. As a social lil gal, Kirri LOVED this. And I've noticed a difference in the way she communicated with other people know, too. She seeks out interaction and wants to smile at anyone she can.
Going to Bali when my partner, as a Mumma who has her babe pretty much all of the time gave my body and mind that little bit of space it really needed.
My partner Brenton and I would take it in turns to get daily massages and daily surfs. Which was epic. Before Kirri girl, I use to make a lot of time for myself to just be, yoga, beach, meditation. Now I've got a little human, she's in the spaces. But that part of myself is still there. It just feels and looks a little different now.
We stayed in Uluwatu at a place called The Yoga Searcher, which we loved. The energy was so relaxing and quiet, with a really yum healthy vego cafe on the property. It was only a few minutes walk to Single Fin. It also had an onsite Yoga Shala with daily classes and holistic day spa. It was so idea for little conscious families like ours.
Sure, Bali with a babe is a little different than the last trip I did pre-covid with my girlfriends but it was just as special in a different way.
If you're a new mama, the nerves just mean you care, you care about your babe and you care about your family - but my experience was amazing and I would highly recommend taking your lil one wherever your heart to asking you to go.
Okay so now for some practical advice for traveling with a babe from me to you.
- Most (depending on the plane) will provide a bassinet for your babe upon request, we actually missed out on this but apparently it's great and gives you extra leg room as well. This is a great option if your little one is still young and will require more naps or if you're flying during the night! All you have to do is call the airline and they will organise it for you.
- I packed a lil first aid kit for things we might need that didn't require the hospital like antibiotics, colloidal silver, disinfectants for cuts, Panadol, healing balms, bandaids, Celtic sea salt and also vitamins to keep our immune system up while traveling and being on planes etc.
- A lot of people were asking us how Kirri went on the plane and honestly she was so fine! I know that sometimes their ears can hurt and if they're sucking on something on take off and landing this can really help!
- Food - if your babe has started solids and you're a bit iffy on giving them food where you're not preparing it, 'd suggest taking over some organic food pouches and bone broth. We did this but also ended up giving her lots of local fruits and smoothies & coconut water (meats not so much).
I hope this helps! And I'm excited to see where you go with your beautiful fam!
